Do not pay any money upfront
Firstly I must say I m sure the hotel is lovely to stay at that s why I booked it and going by a lot of reviews Unfortunately though due to cancellation of event we was going to I had to cancel my booking for this hotel but was carful to choose a refundable booking if I needed to cancel The terms of refund was refund would be made within 14 working days of cancellation Of course I fully understand with the times we live in at the moment it could be a slight delay in refund being processed We cancelled on December 15th and it s now January 26th and no refund as been received I have phoned and emailed to chase refund up but they say that although their cancellation refund policy payment is within 14 working days the law is they have up to 90days to refund and they blame Covid for them needing more than 14 working days So my advice unless you don t mind waiting a long time for refund if you need to cancel then I strongly recommend you do not pay any money up front especially the full amount as I did and not forgetting although there s a long delay in refunds to you any upfront payments to them is instant so no delay there Please note this review is only about the problems I m having getting the refund and not a stay at hotel Also I d like to add I ve had several events cancelled and so had to cancel any hotels I ve booked and all have refunded witching 5 working days so it can be done as it takes seconds to issue a refund

Disgusting behaviour from a supposedly premium hotel
I stayed at the midland hotel last year and left a toiletry bag at the hotel containing my passport and my personal valuables I immediately contacted the hotel and was told they had found my belongings They said they didn t want to post my belongings as it contained my passport and they didn t want to be responsible for losing it if it wen t missing in the Mail I arranged with them to pick up my belongings the next time I was in Manchester for work So the next time I had work in Manchester I booked at the midland again and notified them I had arrived and would like to collect my belongings the next day when housekeeping was open as they had asked me to give them a day notice for them to be able to get the belongings out of a locked room I was then told the next day that my bag and passport had been disposed of I am absolutely fuming they stated it was company policy to dispose of said items I choose not to stay in cheap hotels as I like to experience hospitality To dispose of someone s items who has arranged to collect they had access to my email and phone number when I contacted them about this issue and they proceeded to through away my PASSPORT jewelllery aftershaves amongst other items Absolutely disgusting behaviour from a premium hotel I am over 1000 out of pocket and after speaking with the staff at the hotel for over twenty minutes I had to inform them they have yet to even apologise to me Each member of staff took it in turns to state it wasn t me who threw your items away I was in absolute shock and disbelief at their attempt to shift blame and not take accountability for their mistake AWFUL SERVICE awful behaviour and the hotel have point blank refused to come to any sort of conclusion AVOID

Diabolical service and attitude
Diabolical service and attitude Was taken for cocktails and pre theatre supper Arrived and was told to find a seat we got a drinks menu and eventually a guy came over to ask what we wanted There were only 2 other people in the bar I ordered a grapefruit gin with a fevertree tonic When the drinks arrive a different tonic Questioned the waiter who told me they didn t sell fevertree tonic pointed out that the menu said fevertree to which he replied it was a typing error in The Midland Hotel really The waitress then came for our food choices we wanted Cod Unfortunately no Cod We really didn t fancy the other 2 options We were told that the fish was available at 6 30 So we decided to go to the Art exhibition and come back After saying yes she then came back and said NO we left I called on Saturday to complain and was told the restaurant manager would call Failed Monday I tried again Was left hanging on for 15mins so tried again today Spoke to another guy who told me the manager Katie would call NO what a terrible state of affairs If I had shares inthe Midland Id want to know what was happening there

Currently staying but not sleeping at
Currently staying but not sleeping at the hotel Firstly after a very long day we finally got into bed and my husband found a vape under the pillow Whether this meant housekeeping had dropped or worse the beds hadn t been changed who knows So we trudge downstairs just before 11pm and the night supervisor apologised and asked if we wanted something comping We said firstly we d like the beds to be changed He agreed and arranged this Almost half an hour later our room was finally ready Great I m thinking a good nights sleep because the mattress felt comfy after sitting on it The mattress was the pillows however were rock hard So bad that after I woke not long after falling asleep with an awful pain in my neck I chucked them at the bottom of the bed and slept without them The air conditioning didn t work we currently have it on full blow and the lowest setting blue and not red The fan outside the room should have given away the fact that there might be an issue with temperature in the rooms At 5am I finally went down to reception to ask about a softer pillow hadn t wanted to ring down as my husband had managed to fall asleep and I didn t want to disturb him and as a female wasn t comfortable going down any earlier on my own Asked for a softer pillow hit was told sorry they are all the same Then was told someone had gone to get me a softer one after 10 mins one was offered but felt exactly the same hard in the middle mainly so I declined Mentioned about the room temp and was told they are having issues and upgrading had I made sure the sun icon was selected and not the ice as apparently that was for cooling the room I explained my husband had checked after I d said I couldn t get it be cool He said it was on max cool but still it was very hot and with no temp display we had no idea what the temp was The duvet which was soft but very thick spent the night with the pillows at the bottom of the bed and I was still hot On returning to the room I checked the ac control and there is no snowflake or sun so either this is the old version the receptionist told me about or it s the new version that doesn t work either The staff were helpful and we have our breakfast comped for last night after we were offered a free drink from the bar for the bedding issue we don t drink and one drink doesn t make up for what potentially is poor housekeeping so we asked for another room which they didn t do but said they would change the bedding and then we said what about comping breakfast and they kindly gave us vouchers for that Hoping that this will be outstanding as so far we aren t happy or satisfied Such a shame as it looks amazing in the lobby and the room was decorated well But if the beds are uncomfortable well the main point of a hotel stay is a comfy bed so as far as I m concerned this hotel is well below par Will be speaking to management when we leave Very disappointed

Nice enough hotel very very inflated prices
The hotel is nice enough the prices however are absurd I get that some places cost more to operate than others and I accept that however inflating prices just for the sake of it is just plain wrong and the only possible way that this will ever change is if it hits their bottom line by way of losing custom via honest and open reviews such as mine I ve been in and stayed in a number of hotels as nice or nicer than The Midland in Manchester and all of them did not inflate the prices as much as this hotel did 5 25 for a bottle of lager 6 25 for a pint of lager 8 for a single gin with a small mini bar size bottle of lemonade 30 00 for a full english breakfastYou decide

Charged twice for my stay and broken fridge
I originally was not going to feedback but I feel I need to When I checked in for 2 nights at the Midland Manchester on 23 1 23 I was charged twice 198 x2 for my stay I consequently had to make several inquiries at the desk and made several telephone calls following this to rectify the situation It did cause me distress as at the desk the staff kept insisting they had only taken one payment If I hadn t checked my bank account at the time this error would have gone unnoticed I was reimbursed on 26 1 23 after an Accounts Assistant contacted me Also the fridge in my room was faulty It froze all the food I had placed in there leaving me with no lunch or dinner This came to a cost for me They should go ahead and put something in the fridge and they will discover the same problem Whether other guests have reported the problem I don t know For the sake of other guests they need to check these things and and get them fixed
