Risk of DOA when buying refurbished is on customer
I really liked the idea of buying a refurbished phone It should have saved me some money and in a way it s a form of recycling Digitec provides a 12 month warranty and explicitly advertises that the phone has been fully tested and has no technical limitations So given my willingness to accept some visual damage on the phone it should have been a good deal Unfortunately it turned out differently The phone actually came without the capability to charge the battery Back in the store Digitec advised that a repair would take at least 2-4 weeks and that no replacement would be offered Alternatively I could get a refund Normally Digitec would replace a DOA phone directly but since this one was bought refurbished I was told this was not possible Although I got my money back the whole experience was not great I spent all the effort to pick up the phone migrate from my broken phone troubleshoot the new device register a DOA and finally return the phone myself to avoid having to pay additional shipping costs All in all quite a bit of time spent but still no replacement for my broken phone Since Digitec explicitly advertised the phone as technically functional and fully checked it s disappointing that I have to bear all the effort and risk that comes along when this claim proved void This would not have been the case when buying a newly manufactured phone when a DOA would effectively result in a direct replacement Digitec should more clearly state that DOA cases for refurbished phones are handled differently from DOA cases with newly manufactured phones In the end the level of service and consumer risk is clearly worse when buying a refurbished phone instead of a new one
